Defiance man dies in bicycle mishap in city

Defiance Police officers continue to investigate a bicycle accident which fatally injured a Defiance man early Saturday morning.

Victor Perez Jr., 33, 1403 S. Jackson Ave., was pronounced dead at the scene by Defiance County Coroner Dr. Paul Brose.

According to the Defiance Police Department, they received a call of an injury accident on Third Street near the Maumee and Western Railroad bridge at 5:13 a.m.

Through initial investigation, officers reported Perez was riding his bicycle through a yard behind a residence on Jackson Avenue near the railroad tracks. As he approached Third Street, he was unable to stop and traveled over the retaining wall at the street edge and fell onto the street.

Officers report there is no indication of another vehicle being involved in the accident.

Assisting at the scene was the Defiance Fire Department.

Victor Perez will be missed by alot of people his family has had many tragedies. Remember his mother was shot and killed by Wesley Goings as she rested on her couch in Defiance in the late 80's Victor was a very sweet and giving person. I will miss him.
