Edward Collins Edward E. Collins, 75, Defiance, died Saturday morning, Sept. 13, 2008, at Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center, Defiance. He was born Jan. 5, 1933, in Toledo, and lived with Owen and Marie (Rothman) Collins. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 and then served in the Army Reserve for many years. He retired from G.M. Powertrain, Defiance, and was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hamler. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hamler, with Father Stephen Stanbery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be no visitation. Preferred memorials are to Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice. Arrangements are being handled by Snyder Funeral Home, Holgate. D. Louise Miller ANTWERP -- D. Louise Miller, 81, Antwerp, died at 8:45 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at the Gardens of Paulding. She was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the daughter George and Dorothy (Stellar) Allison. In 1945, she married Leon Miller, who died in 1996. She worked many years in food service and was a regular panelist on the WANE-TV Anne Cologne Show. She was mayor of Antwerp from 1988-2000, being the first female and first consecutive three-term mayor of Antwerp. She was an intricate part of the Fort to Port U.S. 24 project; a member of the Antwerp United Methodist Church, Antwerp VFW and Legion auxiliaries and the Royal Neighbors. Surviving are three daughters, Susan (Terry) Warner of Defiance, Barbara (Tim) Kelley of Grand View, Ind., and Patricia (Fain) Lowe, Antwerp; three sons, Steven (Viv) of Holland, Mich., David of New Haven, and Daniel, Antwerp; and 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Sharon and Joann Allison. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Antwerp United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp. Visitation is today from 2-8 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Gloria Rodriguez ARCHBOLD -- Gloria Rodriguez, 57, Archbold, died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 11, 2008, in her home. She was born Jan. 13, 1951, in Pigeon, Mich., the daughter of Jesus and Juanita (Aguirre) Gomez. She worked at Form Tool, Archbold. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Archbold. Surviving are a son, Julian (Justin Ehrenberg) Rodriguez, Winsted, Ct.; a daughter, Angela (Sasha) Sklar, Los Angeles, Calif.; her parents, Archbold; seven brothers, Arturo (Anita) Gomez of Montana, Ruben Gomez of Archbold, Jesus Gomez Jr. of Colorado, Santiago Gomez and Antonio (Laura) Gomez, both of Wauseon, and Rene Gomez and Mario (Tonya) Gomez, both of Archbold; two sisters, Cecelia Gomez and Alicia (Gabriel) Soto, both of Archbold; and a granddaughter. Preceding her in death were two brothers and a sister. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Peter's Catholic Church with Father Gary Ferguson officiating. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Short Funeral Home. Emily Curtis EDON -- Emily L. Curtis, 59, Edon, died at 2:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, in her home following an extended illness. She was born on Oct. 12, 1948, in Angola, Ind., the daughter of John and Eleanor (Knepper) Foster. In 1978, she married Paul Curtis, who survives. She was a graduate of Edon High School, and earned her bachelor's degree in 1970 and a master's degree in 1972, both in music education from Miami University, Oxford. She was the founding president of Tau Beta Sigma, the national band women's honorary sorority at Miami University of Ohio, and was also the first female instrumental graduate assistant in a division one school in the United States at Miami University. She was a music teacher for 31 years, 27 of those years at Edgerton Local Schools. She was named as the American Legion 2005 Teacher of the Year. She was the founder of Operation Support Our Troops (OSOT). She received many commendations from various units and bases overseas. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Edon, serving as organist and choir director for many years, American Legion Auxiliary, Edon, where she served as chaplain, and Ohio Music Educators Association. Also surviving are a daughter, Amanda Curtis, Iowa City, Iowa; a son, Capt. Jonathan (Shelli) Curtis, Fort Lewis, Wash.; her mother, Eleanor Foster, Edon; and a brother, Bill (Susan) Foster, Edon. Preceding her in death was her father. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Edon, with Pastor Clayton Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Edon Cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today at Krill Funeral Home, Edon. Preferred memorials may be given to the Emily Curtis Memorial Fund at Edon State Bank. Martha Alvarado Mt. JULIET, Tenn. -- Martha J. Alvarado, 73, Mt. Juliet, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, in her home. She was born Oct. 15, 1934, in Shelby, the daughter of Ivan and Madora (Bradick) Crouse. In 1955, she married Jose Alvarado Sr., who died in 1996. She was a homemaker. Surviving are seven sons, Macy of Fresno, Calif., Daniel, Timothy, Julian Sr. and Steve (Diane), all of Defiance, Samuel Sr. (Pam) of Texas, and Jose Jr., Dayton; five daughters, Ana (Jose) Hernandez and Juliana (Keith) Lepper, both of Defiance, Rebecca (Ben) Montgomery of Mt. Juliet, Patricia (Marty) Carty of Sunbury, and Teresa (Brent) Grubb, Fort Wayne, Ind.; four brothers, Harry (Debbie) Crouse, Shiloh, Jim Crouse, Shelby, and Jerry (Irene) Crouse and Gene Crouse, both of Willard; four sisters, Alice (Mac) Garcia and Betty (Beecher) Caudill, both of Florida, and Janise Kinsey and Shirley Richmond, both of Plymouth; and 43 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sons, Gary and Terry Alvarado; two brothers, Harold and Bob Crouse; and a grandson. Services will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Buddy Carty officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, North Creek. Bonita Palmer NAPOLEON -- Bonita "Bonnie" Jean Palmer, 84, Napoleon, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. She was born June 15, 1924, in Napoleon, the daughter of Harley and Lola (Durbin) Travis. In 1944, she married George Howard, who died in 1952. In 1953, she married Ellsworth Palmer, who died in 1988. She was a homemaker. Surviving are three sons, David Palmer and Scott (Marilyn) Palmer, both of Napoleon, and Dennis (Sandy) Palmer, New Bern, N.C.; three daughters, Georgene (Mike) Hypes of Winchester, Va., Sue Lynne Ballard of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Joellen (Lee) Wachtman, Westfield, Ind.; and 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also preceding her in death were 11 brothers and sisters and a grandson. Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, with Rev. Peter Marcis officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation is from 3 p.m. until time of services Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to the family. Joseph Miller NAPOLEON -- Joseph E. Miller, 76, Napoleon, died Thursday evening, Sept. 11, 2008, at his home. He was born June 13, 1932, in Newark, the son of Raymond and Anita (McCall) Miller. In 1957, he married Margaret Wilson, who survives. He worked as a licensed civil engineer at Gerken Paving for 40 years, retiring in 2003. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Bert G. Taylor American Legion Post 300 in Napoleon. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Napoleon, a Master Mason, and a member of the Napoleon Elks Lodge 929. He was a longtime member of the Ohio Contractor Association, and a former member of Kettenring Country Club, Defiance. Also surviving are two daughters, Susan (Marlowe) Witt, of Napoleon, and Molly (Brian) Dickmann, Hillard; a brother, Bill Miller, Texas; and sister, Louise Rhea, Hebron; and five grandsons. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Napoleon, with Rev. Gavin Pitt and Bruce Brown officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Grelton Cemetery, Grelton. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. today at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. There will be an Elks service at 8 p.m. today. Wayne Grothause OTTOVILLE - Wayne A. Grothause, 52, Ottoville, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1956, in Ottoville, the son of Jerome and Margaret (Sanders) Grothause. He worked at Unverferth Manufact-uring Co., Kalida. Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth (Shawn) Gillum, Portland, Ind.; and a son, Donald Adkins, Hamilton; two brothers, Timothy (Cynthia) Grothause of Pandora, and Dennis (Linda) Grothause, Ottoville; two sisters, Marcia (James) Sheppard of Defiance and Mary Ann (Daniel) Gabel, Middlepoint; and two grandchildren. Clyde Kinney WAUSEON -- Clyde John Kinney, 91, Wauseon, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at Fulton Manor, Wauseon. He was born June 29, 1917, in Wauseon, the son of John and Anna (Knierim) Kinney. In 1940, he married Berneatice Balser, who died in March. He was a 1935 graduate of Wauseon High School. In 1939 he graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor of science, and in 1962 he graduated from Toledo University with a masters in education. Prior to his retirement, he had been a school teacher in Orwell, Whitehouse, Pettisville, Chesterfield Township and Pike-Delta-York school systems. In all, he had served as a teacher and administrator for 36 years. After retirement, he substitute taught for another 19 years at Wauseon and Delta. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Wauseon, the Fulton County Retired Teachers Assoc., the Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc., and was a lifetime member of the Fulton County Sportsman's Club. Surviving are a son, Richard (Carolyn) Kinney, Wauseon; and a grandson. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Harland Kinney. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon, with Pastor Hap Itson, officiating. Burial will follow in Wauseon Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Monday.
