GREENVILLE -- The Defiance High School girls cross country team placed sixth out of 23 teams Saturday at the Treaty City CC Invitational at Greenville.

Springboro sophomore Carly Hamilton took first place with the fastest time of 19:01.63 to lead her team to a first-place finish in the team standings.

Placing in the top 10 for DHS was junior Megan Vogelsong with a time of 19:49.46. Also placing well for the Defiance girls were senior Taylor Schultz (14th) followed by junior Anna Meyer (15th).

"This was a really strong finish for us today," commented DHS mentor Scott Saner. "Placing sixth out of 23 teams, especially against a tough field like this, was terrific. I thought our top three girls were outstanding. Taylor Schultz and Anna Meyer really stepped up for us today."

Other finishers for DHS were sophomore Sadie Daeger (91st), freshman Candice Lawson (92nd), freshman Katie Koester (95th) and sophomore Alex Ramirez (117th) out of a field of 183 runners.

"We still need to improve out fourth through seventh spots, but we are young and I really believe we will get better each week," Saner noted. "All of our kids improved their times significantly today. I can't ask for much more than that."

The DHS girls will now compete Saturday at the Tiffin Carnival.

"The competition will definitely increase next week at the Tiffin Carnival," said the DHS head coach. "That is the premiere meet in the Midwest every year and we are excited to compete against the best in the state this coming Saturday."
