NAPOLEON -- A benefit will be held Aug. 9 for a 6-year-old Napoleon boy battling a terminal disease.

A poker run, dinner and auction will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, at AMVETS Post 1313 in Napoleon to help pay medical bills and other costs for Andy Patrick. Patrick was born with Zellweger's disease, a rare congenital disorder in which cell structures cannot rid the body of toxic substances in the liver, kidneys and brain. There is no cure.

Patrick was born blind and deaf. He lacks muscle tone and cannot sit or walk. He lives on a feeding tube.

The disease claimed the life of Patrick's sister. His mother is also deceased.

His father, Doug, cares for Patrick and can only work part-time.

Registration for the poker run will be from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the AMVETS. The first bikes will leave at 12 p.m. and the last bikes should be in at 5 p.m. There will also be prizes for first-second- and third-place hands. Cost is $20 per couple and $15 for singles. The cost includes a dinner.

Those who would like to attend the dinner only can for $8 a meal at the Napoleon AMVETS. There will also be a DJ from 6-11 p.m., door prizes and an auction.

Donations are being accepted for door prizes and the auction. Donations may be sent to 414 High St. or 1309 Lagrange St., Napoleon 43545. Items can also be picked up. To donate items or for more information, call Margie Weber at 419-592-0476, Bob and Dawn Swann at 419-599-0021 or Don Cox at 419-592-4868.
