HAMLER " Patrick Henry defensive lineman Cody Pettit has verbally committed to accept a full-ride scholarship to Central Michigan University.
Pettit, a senior-to-be, currently plans on majoring in education with the Chippewas, who went 8-6 last season while claiming their second straight Mid-American Conference championship.

Pettit is the first PH football player in the history of the program accept an offer with a Division I program and he hopes that making his decision before the end of his senior season will make things easier this fall.
"I'm kind of glad to get it out of the way," admitted Pettit, who had 61 tackles and seven sacks last season for the PH defense. "Now I can focus on the season. I'm excited for this season, but I'm also excited for next year as well."

Pettit, a two-way starter for the Patriots, plans to return to his defensive tackle position with the Patriots, but the Chippewas envision the a 6-3, 245-pounder as a defensive end in their scheme.
"Depending on who we play this year we may switch it up a bit," said Pettit about the upcoming season and what position he plays. "But my team goal is to hopefully make it to state and as an individual I'd like to be all-state again."

During the recruiting process, Pettit had been highly sought after by other MAC schools including Akron and Ohio University while schools like Cincinnati and West Virginia also showed interest in the Patriot. Pettit, who earned a grade of 74 from ESPN, is seen as a high-motor defensive player that can run extremely well for his size. During his combine workouts, Pettit turned in a 5.06 second 40-yard dash while having a 26-5 vertical leap and a 7.88 second time in the 3-cone drill.

After spending much of the summer attending combines and camps, Pettit is glad to finally have a course for his future.

"But this (committing) takes some of the pressure off," added Pettit about heading into a senior season with high expectations. "With all the recruiting and worrying about committing over, this will help me focus."

The Chippewas open the season on Aug. 28 against Eastern Illinois while also playing Big Ten opponent Purdue and SEC power Georgia.
