Napoleon mom pleads not guilty to charges stemming from 13-month-old's death
NAPOLEON -- One of two individuals charged in connection with the death of a 13-month-old girl has pleaded not guilty in Henry County Common Pleas Court.
Jayme Schwenkmeyer, 22, of Napoleon, entered the plea to charges of involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, and child endangering, a third-degree felony. She is scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial hearing on June 26.
The charges stem from the Aug. 15 death of Schwenkmeyer's daughter, Kamryn Gerken, which was allegedly caused by an overdose of the prescription drug oxycodone.
Also charged in the case is Schwenkmeyer's boyfriend, David Knepley, 48, of Napoleon, who is facing the same charges. His arraignment is scheduled for May 15.
Oxycodone is a prescription narcotic used to treat pain and can also be used as an illegal recreational drug.
The investigation which led to the charges was completed by the Napoleon Police Department and the Henry County prosecutor's office.
If convicted, both individuals face a maximum of 15 years in prison. Each is currently free after posting a $60,000 bond.
