ARCHBOLD -- A new educational partnership was formed Tuesday morning when officials of Northwest State Community College and Bluffton University announced the offering of a new master's degree program.

Starting next fall, students in northwest Ohio can earn a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from Bluffton University while completing their coursework at Northwest State (NSCC).

With classes getting underway at the rural Archbold campus in August, individuals with a bachelor's degree may enroll in this new program to earn 39 credits during the two-year program. An MBA can be earned by 2010, explained George Lehman, director of graduate programs in business at Bluffton.

By committing four hours one night a week for two years, the master's degree is within reach. Classes are limited to 20 students.

This is the third location Bluffton students can earn an MBA, including the Bluffton campus itself, as well as Edison Community College in Piqua.

Adults enrolled in the program will also have the opportunity to experience the role of business in China and its place in the global economy by traveling to Asia.

"It's a joy to partnership with other universities," said Dr. Tom Stuckey, NSCC president, "and continue to offer opportunities to area residents. Bluffton has proven to be a worthy partner and I see great potential as we partner with them."

"I'm pleased to be part of a nine-year history with Northwest State," added Bluffton University president Dr. Jim Harder.

He noted that Gov. Ted Strickland is encouraging Ohio residents to take education to the next level and this will increase the number of residents with advanced degrees.
