Defiance College senior Kyle Cogswell, Montpelier, has received state and local recognition in recent weeks for his academic achievements in the college's criminal justice program.

He was named co-winner of Ohio's Outstanding Criminal Justice Graduate Award by the Ohio Council of Criminal Justice Education. To be accepted at the state level, students must be nominated by a faculty member and the nomination accompanied by three letters of reference. Honorees are selected on the basis of their outstanding academic ability, and involvement and leadership in professional, community, and/or campus-related activities.

Cogswell was also selected as one of two DC senior criminal justice majors to present his Senior Capstone project at the research conference of OCCJE. Presenting along with him was Sara Wlasiuk, St. Clair Shores, Mich.

At Defiance's annual honors convocation held recently, Cogswell was named co-winner of the Outstanding Criminal Justice Senior Award, along with Wlasiuk. Cogswell has maintained a 3.91 grade-point average in addition to working full-time throughout his undergraduate years.

He is a member of the Criminal Justice Honor Society and Alpha Chi Honor Society.

Cogswell was hired earlier this year as a juvenile probation officer in Williams County by chief probation officer Craig Rupp and Juvenile Judge Steven Bird.
