Crescent-News.com - Pettisville FFA holds banquet; recognizes members

On March 27, the Pettisville FFA chapter held its 58th annual FFA banquet, where awards were handed out, a new sweetheart was crowned, and the 2008-09 officers were inducted.

Laura Bruner, a 2005 Pettisville graduate, was the speaker at the banquet. She talked about her trip to Brazil and Costa Rica, which she won through the FFA.

Receiving awards were Emily Herring, who won the Star Greenhand award, while Vicki Nofziger and Lynae Fry received Star Chapter awards; Michael Lane and Brian Short became honorary members of the FFA.

The Pettisville FFA Alumni Association awards $10 to six sophomores competing in proficiency areas: Rosy Coronado, Ashley Eicher, Lynae Fry, Brandon Hamilton, Erica King, and Charlie Nofziger.

Also recognized were members who placed in the district for proficiency awards: John Bruner, Bryce Stilwill, Austin Borton, Lucas Nofziger, Bryce Rufenacht, Rebekah Meller, Tim Spiess and Vicki Nofziger.

Krista Spiess will receive a pin for being the only top career development event performer.

Dylan Weirauch was recognized as the winner of the Pest Hunt and was Rebekah Meller was tops in fruit sales.

The Records and Accounting Award went to Tim Spiess; Harris King received the Scholar Award for having the highest overall grade point average; the Ron Rupp Leadership Award was given to Josh Bruner; Tim Spiess and Lucas Nofziger were awarded the Junior Achievement Award; and the Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award was given to Josh Bruner.

Receiving the Alumni Senior Scholarship was given to Luke Short, who plans to enroll at the University of Northwestern Ohio, Lima. Short served the FFA as sentinel and vice president, has participated in parliamentary procedure, conventions, agriscience fair, several career development events, Washington Leadership Conference and will receive his state FFA degree in May. His parents are Brian and Kris Short and Sandy and Mike Short.

Jordan Beck received the Alumni College Scholarship.Beck is a junior at Ohio State University where he is majoring in animal sciences with a minor in agriculture systems management. This summer he has an internship with Cargill where he will be working as a dairy nutritional sales consultant. Beck plans to graduate in March 2009, and plans to pursue a career in animal nutrition or animal pharmaceuticals.

Beck is the son of Dave and Cathy Beck.

The new chapter sweetheart is Katie Weber. Last year's sweetheart was Hannah Beck.

Five new and two reelected officers were inducted at the banquet: Rachel Fry, president; Ashley Eicher, vice president; Rebekah Meller, secretary; Tim Spiess, treasurer; Mackenzie Nofziger, reporter; Lynae Fry, sentinel; Lucas Nofziger, student advisor. Assistant officers are Hailey Randolph, Emily Herring, Torin Blosser, Rosy Coronado, and Vicki Nofziger.
