The Defiance Police Department and the Defiance County Sheriff's Office are investigating a possible drowning of a rural Defiance man in the Auglaize River.

Law enforcement authorities are investigating a missing persons report stemming from an incident on the river early Tuesday morning.

Authorities were informed Tuesday at about 5 p.m. that Eric Flory, 29, 10026 Dowe Road, was last seen attempting to swim across the Auglaize River just west of the Jefferson Avenue bridge at 2 a.m. that day.

Reportedly with him in the early morning hours was Jorge Tenorio, 29, Defiance.

According to sheriff's deputies, Tenorio allegedly tried to swim across the river as well. He swam only a short distance, but then got out of the water.

As of this morning, law enforcement officers report that nothing has been heard from Flory since that night.

Cadaver search dogs out of Indiana and the Defiance Fire Department are working with both law departments to aid in the search for Flory.

Anyone with information relative to this case is encouraged to contact the sheriff's office at 419-784-1155 or the police department at 419-784-5050.

To Eric's Family and Friends, I live in Defiance, and this has been so unfortunate. I didnt know Eric, but from the posts, he sounds like a really great guy. It also sounds like he has a very loving family. My uncle passes a few years ago, after he had been missing. I know the pain is undescribable. Eric will always be in your heart, and you will always have the cherished memories that are vital right now and forever. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I guess I am just angry/sad at the situation and comments, sorry if I come off harsh, but I luv Eric and with everything going on with Defiance and the unexpected losses I am stressin'. Instead of posting comments, emails, or gossiping, try praying. It does wonders (which, I obviously need to go do for now during my current melt down!:) Sorry to any I have offended, I just needed to vent.

p.s. EKW...butt out...you obviously have a narrow mind set and in this case, it is neither supportive nor helpful. Thank you for your input but in this case, follow common manners (did it occur to you that his family would read this?!)...if you have nothing NICE to say, say nothing at all. Defiance is a small community where everyone knows everyone. This is not CSI, one person missing is not an everyday occurence, and we can not point fingers at anyone or any "alleged" cause. I side with the family/friends still in hope. I wish you had the same compassion and courtesy, but I guess it comes with age/common SENSE! Best wishes to you and yours and if anything tragic happens to your family/self I hope that the proper RESPECT is then practiced.

To the family and friends of Eric: May I send my deepest HOPE and PRAYERS!! I know Eric and he is a great person and as Carlos said, foul play or not, he is still a wonderful person, why kick a family in there midst of worry? Wishful prayers and hopeful thoughts to everyone...especially Eric. Let us all rejoice in knowing Eric and not dwell on rumors...how many closets do you all have to unveil. Luke 6:37, "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven."

First of all Eric I love you "dog". for anyone that has ever met Eric we all know where his heart and soul are, with his family. Eric is one of the most carring and loving people I have ever met. My times spent with him are full of love and hate(as with any friend). I have never had a friend that carred for me the way you do. Has anyone ever had a male friend that said on a daily basis "I love you, I miss you"? That is Eric. So Eric....."I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART".

Please don't forget about him,
Paul

It's true...I wasn't there...and I never would have put myself in a position like that in the first place, but the fact is that a friend left another friend in a dangerous situation. That has been documented. It's also something that should be pointed out because we can all learn from it. Surround yourself with friends that wouldn't leave you. And as for passing judgement...this whole situation is about bad judgement. Regardless, Eric Flory's family still needs your thoughts and prayers and so does Jorge Tenorio...his horrible decision will likely mold the rest of his life and others close to Eric.
