Three people were taken to a local hospital after their vehicle rolled into a water-filled ditch Tuesday morning in Richland Township. According to the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, at 10:50 a.m., a vehicle driven by Barbara Hopkins, 923 Wayne Ave., was westbound on Defiance-Ayersville-Pleasant Bend Road, east of Fullmer Road, when it slid sideways off the right side of the roadway and into the water-filled ditch. The vehicle came to rest on its top. Hopkins and her two passengers, Larry Schultz, 63, 28724 Hoffman Road, and Lori Niese, 36, Continental, were taken to Defiance Regional Medical Center where condition updates were unavailable. It was reported that windows were broken out of the vehicle to free the passengers from the wreckage. Assisting at the scene were the Defiance County Sheriff's Office and the South Richland, Defiance and Highland Township fire departments. Hopkins was cited for failure to control. Damage to the vehicle was moderate. Comments
