Filmmaker Spike Lee receives

$50,000 innovative artist award

NEW ALBANY (AP) -- Filmmaker Spike Lee on Monday was awarded the $50,000 Wexner Prize that recognizes innovation, quality and integrity among artists.

The award, a silver hammer sculpture, was presented by Abigail Wexner, wife of Les Wexner, founder, chairman and chief executive of Columbus-based clothing and specialty products retailer Limited Brands Inc.

Lee was to be in Columbus through Wednesday.

Among events on his schedule were a discussion with Ohio State University students, symposiums with teens and adults and a public discussion with James McBride, whose book The Miracle of St. Anna provides the basis of Lee's next film.

Dolly Parton postpones 13-show tour due to back problems

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A back problem has forced Dolly Parton to postpone a concert tour she planned in support of her new CD.

Parton was scheduled to kick off a 13-show tour Feb. 28 in Minneapolis, two days after the release of "Backwoods Barbie."

Doctors advised Parton to take up to eight weeks off to recover from the unspecified problem.

"I know I have been breaking my neck and bending over backwards trying to get my new 'Backwoods Barbie' CD and world tour together, but I didn't mean to hurt myself doing it," Parton, 62, said.
