CECIL -- The body of a female homicide victim found Saturday has been identified as Teresa Smith, 38, whose last known address was in Brownsville, Ind.

Smith's body was discovered around 2 p.m. Saturday near Paulding County Roads 87 and 180 in Crane Township. Smith was identified by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification through fingerprints.

Brownsville, Ind., is approximately 135 miles southwest of Cecil, located in Union County, Ind., south of Richmond.

According to an autopsy conducted by the Lucas County coroner's office, Smith died from a gunshot wound. The type of gun used was unknown today.

Paulding County Coroner Dr. Larry Fishbaugh on Tuesday said the victim's day of death appeared to be either late Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

It is believed she was killed in the ditch where her body was found, according to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Smith's family has been notified, according to officials.

Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the homicide.

No further information was available at press time.
