The Defiance softball team ushered in the season with 3-2 triumph over Wauseon in 11 innings on Saturday.
"First and foremost I want to give credit to Wauseon head coach Justine Johnson, that program as come along way in 12 months," said Defiance coach Hans Zipfel. "Last season we had our way with them and this year was a different story. We hung tough after we squandered away the lead. Give credit to our girls."
Wauseon sent the game into extra innings by scoring the tying run in the top of the seventh before the Bulldogs (1-0) plated the winning run in the 11th.
Bry Perez allowed just six Wauseon hits over 11 frames in the circle and fanned 10 hitters.
Kathryn Riehle smacked a single and double for the Bulldogs while Emily Gallant added two singles. Kara Schudel and Trista Guyton each added a double apiece.
Lindy Mynhier had half of the Indians' hits on the day with three singles. Kayla Ayala added a double for Wauseon (0-1).
Defiance plays at Liberty Center today.
