DC softball: Lady Jackets split with Hanover

The Defiance College softball team split a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Hanover on Saturday, losing 5-3 before coming back for a 9-4 win in the second game. DC is now 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the HCAC while Hanover is 6-10 and 1-1.

The Jackets scored runs in each of the first five innings of the nightcap, taking advantage of six Hanover errors in the contest.

Macy Ferrall had three hits, drove in two and scored twice for DC while Makayla McAvoy had a single and double. Katie Miller (Archbold), Lauren Dicke and Tory Plummer all added a pair of hits.

Dicke was the winning pitcher going seven innings allowing 10 hits and two earned runs while fanning three to move to 1-2 on the year.

Kaliea Holbrook (Defiance) was 3-for-3 to lead the Jackets at the plate in the first game while Miller hit two singles.

DC is at Bluffton on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
