ANDERSON, Ind. --Senior Justin Perkins and freshman Josh Hilton led the way for the Defiance College men's cross country team at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held at Anderson University on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets finished fifth in the field.
Perkins ended the event in 17th with a time of 27:20.81, while Hilton placed 20th with a final time of 27:42.58. Perkins and Hilton both recieved All-HCAC Honorable Mention status for their performances. Sophomore Joe Davis finished 23rd with a race of 27:57.03, and junior Hayden Krick posted a time of 28:24.63 to end the day in 30th place. Rounding out the day for DC was senior Aaron Fraley, who completed the course in 28:48.98 to come in 39th. Fraley was also named to the All-Sportsmanship Team following the meet.
Meanwhile in the women's meet, Defiance College senior Ellen Stryffeler was named All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference after leading the Jackets a third-place overall finish.
Stryffeler, who was named HCAC Runner of the Week twice this season, capped her year with a finishing time of 24:05.36. Following the meet, she was also named to the HCAC All-Sportsmanship team.
The Yellow Jackets finished the meet in seventh place, with a team score of 165. Freshman Bri Rodriguez finished the race in 24th with a time of 25:31.71. Junior Erika DeBos ran a time of 26:38.75, while sophomore Kali George came in at 27:18.95. Finishing the scoring for Defiance was freshman Marissa Bussard at 29:49.26.
