Defiance girls soccer: Laycock's goal lifts Lady Bulldogs

BRYAN SEmD Freshman Chelsea Laycock scored in the second half to lift Defiance past Wauseon 2-1 in Division II girls sectional soccer play on Monday at Bryan.

Emily Spencer had a goal and an assist for the Lady Bulldogs (5-9-2).

Wauseon's lone goal was scored by Bailey Creager.

"It was a total team effort today. The girls played for the entire 80 minutes with heart and desire," stated Defiance head coach Jessica Schroeder. "Senior goaltender Brittany Froelich was the leader on the field and played with passion. Katie Schlegel was the leader on defense."

Laycock was inserted into the lineup in the second half and scored the eventual game-winning goal.

"Seeing a freshman score a goal in the second half in a tournament game shows the type of heart that girl has," added Schroeder. "We have some momentum and are ready to go against Bryan."

Defiance moves on to play Bryan Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the sectional finals at Bryan. Bryan defeated Defiance earlier in the season, 3-2.
