DC splits twin bill

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Defiance College volleyball team lost their opening match against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Transylvania, 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 11-15), but rebounded to defeat Kentucky Christian in the second match, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-16).

In the first match of the day, the Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore Chelsea Ludeman's 17 kills. Freshman Alicia Kalik directed the DC attack with 37 assists. On defense, the Yellow Jackets were paced by freshman Jill Turner's 20 digs, while senior Marlea Rolander had six blocks. Against Kentucky Christian it was Rolander that led the squad with 12 kills. Kalik provided 32 assists in the victory, and sophomore Alexis Pierce tallied a team-best six blocks. Sophomore Christa Seidenstricker added 13 digs in the match.

At Hanover on Friday, the DC fell to Hanover College, 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 13-25).

Ludeman led the attack with nine kills, while Kalik provided 22 assists for the Jackets.

Defensively, Defiance was paced by freshman Stephanie Wilson's nine digs. Ludeman and Rolander each had two blocks in the match.
