PAULDING -- The Paulding County commissioners have purchased the Antwerp ballfields property following a sheriff's auction.
The commissioners purchased the property for its minimum bid of $32,000 late last week. The sale will be finalized within the next two weeks, according to Prosecutor Joseph Burkard. The appraisal value of the property was $48,000.
The business TDM3 had purchased the fields with the old school several years ago. The company secured a revolving loan fund to make upgrades to the property in order to transform it into an assisted living complex. The county, at that time, asked that the ballfields be used to secure the revolving loan fund note. The field's mortgage was approximately $60,000. Later TDM3 went into bankruptcy.
The commissioners previously met with officials from Antwerp and the Antwerp Ball Association about giving the property back to the village with the understanding that the ball association would pay continued real estate taxes.
