Defiance parking ban, emergency

Defiance Mayor Bob Armstrong has continued the snow emergency through Wednesday, advising motorists to take extreme caution on the roadways. He has further declared that a parking ban in the downtown area will be implemented.

To facilitate the movement of traffic and permit efficient snow removal operations, parking is prohibited on the following downtown streets from 9 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Those streets include: Jackson Avenue and Perry Street between First and Fifth streets; Clinton Street between Fort and Arabella streets; Wayne Avenue between Fort and Fifth streets; First Street between Wayne and Jackson Avenue; Second, Third and Fifth streets between Jefferson and Jackson Avenue; and Fourth Street between Jefferson Avenue and Perry Street.

Any vehicle parked on a designated street after 9 p.m. today will be towed and impounded at the owner's expense. The owner will be subject to a fine of $25.

The city will reassess the situation and a subsequent parking ban may be called for the removal of the snow.

City Hall will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
