• Defiance County

Council agenda: Defiance City Council will consider three ordinances and hold a public hearing during its meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the city service building, 631 Perry St.

Council will begin the meeting with a public hearing on permanent zoning for areas recently annexed into Defiance.

Council also will give first readings to ordinances accepting the annexation of 4.165 acres in Richland Township, accepting the annexation of 0.653 acre in Noble Township and authorizing the purchase of three lots on Auglaize Street for $5,000 with federal and state financial assistance.

Blood drive: A blood drive will be held from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday at the Defiance Eagles Post 372, 711 West Second St. To schedule an appointment or for more information call 800-RED-CROSS.

Meeting canceled: The St. John's Catholic Church Celebrating Senior 55 Club (Defiance) meeting will not be held on Tuesday due to the inclement weather.

Current Event Club: The Current Event Club will meet on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. John United Church of Christ, 950 Webster St., Defiance, on the Defiance College campus. Judy Dally will continue the topic of "Specialized Museums" by presenting a program on the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Those unable to attend the meeting should contact hostess Judy Dally.

• Henry County

Blood drive: The Henry County American Red Cross will hold the Leon Bonner Memorial Blood Drive at the Napoleon Moose Lodge, 1381 Oakwood Ave., on Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. To schedule an appointment, call 800-RED CROSS.

• Williams County

Free throw shooters: The Bryan Parks and Recreation Department is looking for anyone ages 9 and older to compete in the annual free throw shooting contest on Saturday from 8-10 a.m. Awards are handed out at 10:30 a.m., at the Bryan Middle School gym.

There will be six age groups for males and females: 9-10, 11-12, 13-15, 16-22, 23-30 and 31-over. The foul line will be advanced for ages 9 through 12.

Register on the morning of Jan. 11 no later than 10 a.m. The contest is free. Call 419-633-6030 for more information.

Classes offered: The New Heights Educational Group Resource and Literacy Center is offering its biweekly enrichment day/co-op classes which will start again on Jan. 17 from 1-3 p.m. Classes will be held at Zion's Lutheran Church, Defiance.

Note that the classes are not religion-based unless families want there to be one. Parents and students are required to participate in these classes and help with the planning of them. New Heights will be offering a culinary class, reading time, science class, Irish dance and karate and is open to more suggestions.
