Annual Monte Carlo set for April 13

The Fort Defiance Humane Society is hosting its 19th annual Monte Carlo Night, a fundraiser for the Justin F. Coressel Animal Shelter, rural Defiance, on April 13. The casino night will run from 7-11:30 p.m. at Defiance Eagles Aerie 372, 711 W. Second St.

Activities include blackjack, regular poker, Texas Hold 'Em, showdown poker, two big money wheels, pot o' gold, bingo, 50/50 drawings, 10 packages to raffle and a silent auction of items generously donated by area businesses. Several door prizes will also be distributed throughout the evening.

The fundraiser is expected to raise approximately $5,000 to supplement the humane society's general fund. The shelter's annual budget is $200,000.

Tickets may be purchased at the door for $10 or in advance for $8 at the shelter, Deluxe Cleaners, Padrone's Pizza, Lawson Printing, Mercury Cleaners, Kissner's or from any board member. Persons must be at least 18 years old to be admitted.

The price of admission includes sandwiches, vegetables and dip, a variety of cheeses, chips, desserts, soft drinks and coffee. A cash bar will also be open.

The Justin F. Coressel Animal Shelter, located at Ohio 15 and Trinity Road, took in 2,137 animals in 2012. Of those, 440 were adopted, 173 were claimed and 28 were rescued.
