OTTAWA -- Eight people were injured Saturday in a two-vehicle crash in Putnam County.
According to the Lima post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, the crash occurred Saturday at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Putnam County Road I-7, east of Ohio 65.
According to troopers, Channing Schmitz, 16, Ottawa, was eastbound on Putnam County Road I-7 when his vehicle went airborne over the railroad tracks and landed on the wrong side of the road in front of oncoming traffic. Schmitz tried to correct the vehicle but lost control and struck the front of a westbound vehicle driven by Daryl Brooks, 50, Ottawa.
Troopers report that five juvenile passengers from Schmitz's vehicle and three passengers from Brooks' vehicle were transported to local hospitals to be treated for injuries. The names of the injured were not available.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
