Sherwood man went down with USS Meredith ship in WWII
By JACK PALMER
SHERWOOD The saga of the USS Meredith in the Pacific Ocean during World War II is not fully contained in official reports of the Navy Department.
What is known is that 237 shipmates gave their lives when their ship was sunk by Japanese planes near Guadalcanal on Oct. 15, 1942.
Among those gallant Americans was Sherwood resident SF1 John L. Fahy. The VFW in Sherwood is named in his memory.
