Farmers getting jump on planting

The nations corn planting is well ahead of seasonal averages, according to the latest United States Department of Agricultural crop progress report. Locally, agricultural experts are reporting that a significant number acres of corn have already been planted. The USDA reports 20 percent of the nations corn crop is in the ground. The five-year average for the third week in April is 9 percent.
