Continental cost-saving moves made

CONTINENTAL A marathon 10-hour, special meeting of the Continental Local Board of Education on Monday resulted in the decision to make an estimated $400,000 in personnel cuts and several other cost-cutting moves, most of which would be effective with the 2004-05 school year. Superintendent Sandra Muir verified this morning that job cuts would be permanent, even if an additional 1 percent, five-year income tax is approved by voters on March 2. I really cannot say how many positions are involved or what staff members are affected, since by contract there are seniority rights involved and there may be some bumping of positions by staff members with more seniority, Muir said. What I can tell you is that it covers both certified and noncertified staff. Notices to the affected employees are being delivered today, the superintendent added.
