Antwerp man turns himself in

ANTWERP An Antwerp man accused of stabbing his estranged wife surrendered to authorities Tuesday night, nearly 10 hours after the assault was reported and prompted three area schools into a lockdown. Charles M. Clifford Sr., 45, was being held at the Paulding County Jail this morning on a charge of felonious assault filed by the county sheriffs office. He is accused of allegedly stabbing his estranged wife, Rachel Clifford, 35, several times at her home on U.S. 24 by Crane Township Road 1031 around 11:14 a.m. Tuesday. Rachel Clifford was transported from the scene to Paulding County Hospital by the Antwerp EMS, and was later transferred by air ambulance to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Her condition was unavailable this morning. According to the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Charles Clifford Sr. turned himself in at the post headquarters located on Baltimore Road in Defiance at 8:45 p.m.
