A local citizens group has begun circulating a referendum petition to overturn a zoning ordinance approved last week by Defiance City Council. The legislation, which amended zoning for properties at 602-622 N. Clinton St. and 603-625 Nicholas St. from A-O (apartments and offices) to B-3 (general business) was approved Sept. 9 by a 4-2 council vote. The three-person committee heading up the referendum effort, according to the petition, are Jane Boehm, 516 N. Clinton St.; Gertrude (Trudy) Smith, 2108 S. Jefferson Ave.; and Robyn Small, 714 N. Clinton St.
