ALABASTER, Ala. -- Marian Shelby passed into Jesus' arms on July 26, 2014, in Alabaster, Ala.
She was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Defiance, Ohio, to Alfred John and Dora (Genter) Wendt. She graduated from Ridgeville High School. She married Robert Keafer, who preceded her in death in 1989, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ohio on June 6, 1948. The family moved to Shelbyville, Ind., in 1960. Marian worked at various jobs during that time, sang in the Shelbyville United Methodist Church choir, and volunteered 18 years for Shelby County Red Cross.
In 1991, she married Herman Shelby (now deceased) and moved to Merrillville, Ind. In 2000, she moved to Frankfort, Ind., to be near her son. In 2010, she moved to Calera, Ala., to live with her daughter.
Marian was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Frankfort, Ind. She enjoyed organ music, bells, art, crossword puzzles, reading, telling jokes, and talking to people.
Surviving are her daughter, Teresa "Tess" (Jim) Simons, Alabama; son, Kim (Carla) Keafer, Frankfort; sister, Bernice Norden, Defiance, Ohio; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her parents,one brother, and two sisters.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Matthew United Methodist Church on Friday, August 1, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Justin Fisher officiating.
Visitation will be one hour before service.
