Lucille Roberta Michaelis, 99, of Defiance, died Monday, July 28, 2014, at Genesis Healthcare Bryan Center, Bryan.
She was born February 17, 1915, in Henry County to the late George A. and Clara (Schroeder) Hoffman. On June 9, 1940, she married Fred L. Michaelis, and he preceded her in death on August 27, 1979. Lucille graduated in 1933 from Ridgeville Township School and in 1935 from Bowling Green State University. She was a school teacher in the Ridgeville Township area prior to her marriage. She then was a dedicated homemaker, loving and devoted farm wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She volunteered at the former Defiance Hospital. She was the oldest member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Defiance, and very active over her many years.
She is survived by children, Mary Ann (Floyd) Taylor, Ney, Judy (Darwin) Hancock, Defiance, and Art (Patty) Michaelis, Defiance; six grandchildren, Lisa (Jeff) Whitman, Rick (Julie) Taylor, Kevin (Tracy) Hancock, Rodney (Nicole) Hancock, Keith (Shaye) Michaelis and Candi Michaelis; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by sister, Margaret Turnbull; brothers, George J. "Sonny" Hoffman and Arthur Hoffman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Pastor Robbie Ketcham officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
