Eugene "Gene" Gee, 87, of Defiance, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at his residence.

He was born July 21, 1927, in Napoleon, to the late Clarence and Florence (Reinke) Gee. On September 9, 1989, he married Bernadine "Bernie" (Niese) Hyter and she survives. He was previously married to Alice (Hunt) Gee and she preceded him in death on May 15, 1985. Eugene worked for GM in Defiance as a cupola operator for over 25 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler. He was a devoted family man, who will be remembered for his crossword puzzles and watching his rain gauges.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadine "Bernie" Gee; children, Carol (Michael) Wagner of Defiance, James Gee of Defiance, Elaine (Dan) Stewart of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dawn Brown of Delta, Ohio, Tammy (Jim) Rayle of Deshler and Christine (Joe) Brown, Holland, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn (Ron) Hills, Napoleon.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Clarence "Junie" Gee Jr.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 28, at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler, with Pastor Thomas Smuda officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery, Napoleon. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.
