Charles Sholl, 91, of Defiance, died July 17, 2014, at Laurels of Defiance.

He was born March 17, 1923, to Theodore and Estella (Link) Sholl in Oakwood, Ohio. On October 18, 1947, he married Jean Fair, who survives. Chuck retired from Dinner Bell Foods of Defiance in 1988. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and World War II. Charles was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a life member of VFW Post 3360, Defiance Eagles, Knights of Columbus and the Prop Floppers. He enjoyed gardening, building model airplanes and building furniture. He especially enjoyed building furniture for his grandchildren.

In addition to being survived by his wife he is also survived by sons, Don Sholl of Defiance and Mike (Judy) Sholl of Defiance; daughters, Karen (Roger) Wilson of Montpelier, Patricia Sholl of Livermore, California, and Sue (Bruce) Gerlinger of Advance, North Carolina; brothers, Gerald (Rosie) Sholl of Oakwood, Walter (Martha) Sholl of Ayersville, Vincent (Shirley) Sholl of Oakwood and Leo (Janet) Sholl of Oakwood; a sister, Catherine Cline of Defiance; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas; his parents; and a brother, Joseph.

Friends may call at the Lawson Roessner Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, July 18. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Memory Gardens.
