Betty Irene Bowling, 81, of Defiance, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, July 16, 2014, surrounded by her family.

She was born to Lewis and Mabel (Eitniear) Hardy on June 18, 1933, in Defiance County. On February 2, 1952, she married Leland Bowling, who died October 1, 2002. Betty was employed at Campbell Soup for 25 years, retiring in 1988. She and her husband, Leland, owned Bowling Trucking. Betty was a devoted member of Grace Bible Church of Defiance.

She is survived by sons, Gary (Judy) Bowling of Defiance, Kent Bowling of Defiance, LaVon (Colleen) Bowling of Defiance and Charley (Rita) Bowling of Defiance; daughters, Christyna Bowling of Defiance and Darlene Peterson of Defiance; brother, Vernon Hardy of Texas; sister, Sharon (Jerry) Ruff of Rockford, Illinois; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; her parents; and two brothers, Norman and John Hardy.

Funeral services for Betty will be held at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, on Saturday at 10 a.m., with Dr. John McKay officiating. Visitation for Betty will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery. A small memorial luncheon at Grace Bible Church will follow the graveside ceremony.
