KALIDA -- Robert P. Wurth, 88, of Kalida, died at 9:28 p.m. Thursday July 10, 2014, at The Meadows of Kalida.
He was born August 24, 1925, in Union Township, Putnam County, to the late Joseph and Catherine (Schmitz) Wurth. On August 25, 1951, he married Martha Kahle, who died April 24, 2004.
He is survived by eight children, Anne (Randy) Swary of Defiance, Charles "Chuck" Wurth of Fayette, Steve (Jane) Wurth of Sylvania, Barbara (Jim) Vieira of Hilliard, Tim (Jane) Wurth of Cincinnati, Gerry (Cinda) Wurth of Lima, Janette (Andy) Cothrel of Oakwood, and Amy (Chris) Whisman of Germantown; 21 grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene (Joyce) Wurth and Tom (Ruth) Wurth, both of Kalida; and three sisters, Emma Hoersten of Lima, Mildred Ellerbrock of Ottawa, and Nora Lou Basinger of Kalida.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Carl, Peter, Louis and Richard Wurth; and a sister, Marie Langhals.
Robert retired from Philips in 1987. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific aboard the USS Lowndes. He was a member of the Ottawa American Legion, a charter member of Kalida Fish and Game Club and a life member of the NRA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, with Father Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW and AMVETS. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.
