NAPOLEON -- Donald F. Bremer, 97, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 4, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 2, 1917, to William and Clara (Bachaus) Bremer in Defiance County, Ohio. On May 12, 1946, he married his wife of 68 years, Lorna (Helberg) Bremer at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Okolona, Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served his country proudly in the South Pacific Theater during World War II, from 1941 through 1945. He was a carpenter and a farmer, retiring in 1983. A lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Okolona, Ohio, he served in various church offices. He also served as a Napoleon Township trustee, and was an active life member of Napoleon Legion Post 300 and VFW Post 8218. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lorna; and five children, Sheryl Owens of Charlotte, N.C., Randal and Donna Bremer of Virginia Beach, Va., Debra Burt and Jay Bollinger of Tiffin, Ohio, Renee Bremer Hartman of Custar, Ohio, Tamara and Denny Wilson of Jenison, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, William Bremer of Defiance, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Hilda Mix, Pauline Sutter, Lucille Shoemaker and Irma Overhulse; brother, Edgar Bremer; and a stillborn son.
The family will receive guests Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, 1010 Westmoreland Avenue, Napoleon, Ohio 43545, and on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 30997 Gerken Road, Okolona, Ohio. Internment will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Okolona.
