TOLEDO -- A. Helen Lawson, 85, of Toledo, Ohio, surrounded by her family, left this earth on July 1, 2014, and went to be with The Lord after a long battle with cancer.
Born February 4, 1929, in Defiance, to Marvin and Amelia Gallup, Helen married James L. Lawson on August 18, 1951, and they had four children.
A graduate of St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, Helen was proud to be a registered nurse. During her 20-plus years at St. Vincent Hospital, she was a nursing instructor and worked in the retina unit. Helen also held nursing positions locally at the pediatric office of Henry Cullin and Brookfield, as well as Hospice and Ask A Nurse while residing in Florida.
Helen loved sewing, reading, dancing and playing endless hours of cards.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Amelia; her husband, James L. Lawson; brother, Samuel Gallup; and sisters, Mary Weber and Betty DeLaet.
She is survived by her sisters, Ruth May of Defiance and Sr. Janet Gallup, Boston; brother, John Gallup, Quebec; sons, James J. Lawson (Cindy) and John H. Lawson (Mary); daughters, Janet M. Malinowski (Mark) and Judi L. Scott; grandchildren, Katie Daggett (Lyle), Michael Lawson, Jeffrey Seiler (Sara) Stephanie Doyle (Michael), Heather Lawson, Brian Pruss (Jody), Katelyn Scott, Amanda Scott and Dylan Scott; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers that were so gracious with their time and loving in their care for Helen during her illness.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 6, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. The funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home on Monday at 9:15 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.
