James Eis

HOLGATE -- James C. Eis, 84, of Holgate, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014.

He was born September 19, 1929, in Flatrock Township, to Dallas and Leona (Hoffman) Eis. A graduate of Holgate High School, Jim served as staff sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. In August 1959, he married Audrey Hoops, who survives. Jim was a lifelong farmer and also retired from the Defiance Crescent-News.

He is survived by his loving wife, Audrey; two sons, Douglas (Sandy) Eis and David (Jennifer) Eis; five grandchildren, Heather (Anthony), Christopher, Malory, Alexis and Caden; great-grandchild, Carter; and brother, Robert Eis.

He was a devoted member of Zion's Lutheran Church, Defiance, and a member of the church council and finance committee. He was also a member of Defiance VFW Post 3360. Jim enjoyed farming his entire life, was always involved in every aspect of the business from daylight to dark and beyond.

While at The Crescent-News, he worked in the graphic arts department. He shot local sporting events, weddings and graduation photos.

He was very dedicated to his grandchildren and great-grandchild; being the chauffeur extraordinaire always ready to take the wheel for friends and family wherever they needed to go.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion's Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Rev. Timothy Reynolds officiating. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. today at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at church.
