Charles Merillat

ARCHBOLD -- Charles G. (Bud) Merillat, 85, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Fountain Park Assisted Living in Bryan.

He was born February 28, 1929, in Franklin Township, the son of Charles Sr. and Hattie (Colon) Merillat, and married Leola Jean Wyrick on November 5, 1949. The Merillats were early settlers of Fulton County and Bud farmed land that has been in his family for over a hundred years. A lifelong resident of Archbold, Bud retired from Yoder & Frey where he was employed as a machinery mechanic. He enjoyed providing family and friends with produce grown in his garden. Bud was a member of the Archbold United Methodist Church.

Bud is survived by his four children, Sam (Nancy) Merillat of Archbold, Janet Merillat of Angola, Ind., Sue Kruse of Wooster, and Rev. James (Pamela) Merillat of Yakima, Wash.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a grandson; a great-grandson; one brother, Millard Merillat; and two sisters, Edna Hootman and Mina Alexander.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Archbold United Methodist Church with Rev. David David officiating. Interment will be in the Archbold Cemetery. Friends may call at Short Funeral Home in Archbold from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.
