Lois Jean Corwin, of Defiance, died Friday, June 13, 2014.

She was born on January 28, 1930, in Sherwood, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Georgia (DeFreece) Etchie. She was a 1947 graduate of Sherwood-Delaware High School. Lois was a homemaker most of her life. She was employed by G.C. Murphy Company in Defiance.

Lois married William O. Corwin on June 11, 1949, in Hicksville, and he preceded her in death on January 10, 2001.

She is survived by two daughters, Debra Dunsford of Defiance and Rebecca (Randal) Adams of Englewood; three grandchildren, Melissa Simmerman of Palmer, Alaska, Chad (Stacia) Adams of Montpelier, and Casey (Janel) Adams of Martinsburg, West Virginia; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Savanna, and Benjamin Simmerman of Palmer, Alaska, and Kaley, Ethan, and Austin Adams of Montpelier; a sister, Shirley (Don) Ridenour of Hicksville; her loyal dog, Emmett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by two sisters in 2014, Mildred Daugherty and Nadine Coy; three brothers, Harlan, Vernon, and Ray Etchey; a son-in-law, Gary Dunsford; and a great grandson, Chase Taylor Adams.

Lois was a member of Defiance Christian Church where she served as Cradle Roll secretary for 30 years. She was a member of the Fair and Square Club since 1954.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the funeral service time of 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. Jim Dotson officiating.

Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens immediately following the services.
