Thomas David Baldwin, 80, of Defiance, passed away on June 9, 2014, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center, surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 29, 1934, to Thomas and Marie (Stultz) Baldwin in Defiance, Ohio. He attended school at Paulding High School and worked as a tow motor driver for GM until retiring in July of 2002. On February 15, 1958, Thomas married Norine Cordy in Bowling Green, Ohio. Thomas served in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter from 1954-1956. He was also a lifelong beekeeper and enjoyed tending to his hives, and sharing the wealth of honey with his family and friends.

Thomas is survived by his loving spouse of 56 years, Norine; daughter, Sue (Larry) Rankin of Defiance, Ohio; sons, Thomas D. Baldwin Jr. of Defiance and Michael (Mona) Baldwin of Defiance; grandchildren, Heather (Nathan) Sheline of Edon, Ohio, Holly (Ryan) Snyder of Defiance, Michael Baldwin Jr. of Defiance, Michael Hall Jr. of Defiance, Krista Hall of Defiance, Jaren (Cheryl) Baldwin of Butler, Ky., Thomas (Trisha) Baldwin of Hicksville, Ohio, Heith Baldwin of Butler, Ky., Carley Rankin of Defiance, Caleb (Emilee) Rankin of Defiance, Jessika Baldwin of Defiance, Mykel Wireman of Defiance; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffery Baldwin; daughter-in-law, Cathy Baldwin; and grandsons, Shawn Baldwin and Jared Baldwin.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 12, 2014, from 2-8 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, and one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Second Baptist Church, with Rev. Max Begley, officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens with military honors being accorded by VFW Post 3360.
