ARCHBOLD -- Waldo Lee Aeschliman, 79, of Archbold, passed away peacefully June 1, 2014, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Pettisville Sunday afternoon.
He was born April 29, 1935, near Pettisville, Ohio, to Benjamin and Mary Aeschliman. Waldo was a lifelong resident of the Pettisville community, living on the farm where he was raised until just a number of years ago when he moved down the road. While attending high school, Waldo was involved in starting the vocational-agriculture program at Pettisville, and in 1951 was the school's first State Farmer Degree recipient. Waldo was a grain farmer, beef producer and member of the Fulton County Cattle Feeders. His work and enjoyment came from tilling the soil, harvesting crops, raising cattle and all of the day-to-day tasks of agriculture. He accepted his Lord and Savior early in life and was a charter member of Zion Mennonite Church of Archbold. Waldo and his wife, Barbara, had an inseparable bond, working and laughing together every day for almost 60 years. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren's visits brought him much joy. In the past number of years he was often found in his shop making Christmas gifts for them.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Ann (Nafziger); three children, Terry (Sandy), Max (Brenda) Aeschliman and JoAnn (Scott) Short, all of the local community; seven grandchildren, Julie (Darrin Yoder) Aeschliman of Akron, Pa., Chad (Nikki) Aeschliman, Rachel (Corey Roth) Aeschliman, Jeff (Jessie) Aeschliman, Justin (Jessica Biddle) Aeschliman, W. Olley, and Meridith Short, all living locally; six great-grandchildren, Simon, Lucia and Oliver Yoder, Creighton and Lincoln Aeschliman, and Sophie Aeschliman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ellis, Elton (Florence) and Ora (Lillian); sisters, Ruth (Amos), Martha (Ezra) Schmucker, Maxine (Sam) Thomas and infant sister, Loraine.
The memorial service will be held Sunday, June 8, at 4 p.m. at Zion Mennonite Church, Archbold, with Pastor Jessica Schrock-Ringenberg officiating. Interment will precede at 3 p.m. at the Pettisville Cemetery. Family and friends may call at Zion Mennonite Church from 5-9 p.m. June 7.
The family suggests that memorials be given to Mennonite Central Committee or the donor's choice. www.ShortFuneralHome.com
