Andrew E. Doan Sr., 79, of Defiance, passed away on May 31, 2014, at the St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was born on July 15, 1934, to James A. and Elizabeth (Hartoon) Doan in Defiance, Ohio. Andrew worked as a union construction worker for the Local 500. He was a Korean War veteran of the Army, serving in the infantry, a member of the Defiance VFW Post 3360, Eagles, and AMVETS. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

Andrew is survived by his sons, Andrew Doan Jr. of Montpelier, Ohio, and Wade (Darlene) Doan of Montpelier, Ohio, daughters, Tonia (Mike) Sabo of Defiance, Jean (Jeff) Kretz of Defiance and Danielle Doan of Ney; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Kleinhenn of Napoleon; and sister, JoAnn Font of Paulding.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles "Fred" Doan; and sisters, Claire Rau, Marilyn Stuckey, Katherine Pelland and Ruth Doan.

Visitation will be held at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the funeral home, with Rev. Patrick Holt officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, where members of the VFW Post 3360 will accord military honors .
