Richard 'Dick' Rockey

Richard "Dick" Ray Rockey, 84, of Defiance, passed away on May 24, 2014, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.

He was born on January 7, 1930, to Edgar and Helene (Eastman) Rockey in Continental, Ohio. He attended school at Continental High School, graduating with the class of 1948. Dick worked as an engineer for SK Tool. On November 10, 1956, he married Betty Murphy. Dick and Betty lived in Defiance, Ohio. Dick worked at SK Tools which became Dresser. After retirement in the late '80s he helped maintain the grounds at the Auglaize Country Club, and also worked at Cooper Hatchery. Dick loved golfing, gardening and playing poker. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.

Richard "Dick" is survived by his daughter, Laurie Grennay of Defiance, Ohio; son, Scott Rockey of Cincinnati, Ohio; siblings, Phyllis Lloyd of Continental, Ohio, Marvin (Jo) Rockey of San Antonio, Texas, and Randall Rockey of Silver Springs, N.M.; grandkids, Alex (Kristen) Grennay of Slipper Rock, Pa., Gabrielle Grennay, Chase Grennay, McKenna Grennay and Kassidey Grennay, all of Defiance, Samantha Rockey and Matthew Rockey, both of Cincinnati; and great-grandson, Keegan Hoffman.

He was preceded in death by father, Edgar Ray Rockey; mother, Helene Rockey; wife, Betty Joan Rockey; and siblings, Delbert Rockey, Carol Shirey, Virginia Cooper and Royal Rockey, in infancy.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014, from 10 a.m.- noon at Schaffer Funeral Home Inc., Defiance, Ohio. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at noon at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Ray Long Jr. officiating. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery veterans' section.
