NEW CLEVELAND -- Ronald F. Lammers, 82, of New Cleveland, died at 7:04 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the Meadows at Putnam Acres after a six-month illness.
He was born July 14, 1931, in Leipsic, to the late Arthur and Loretta (Wagner) Lammers. On October 30, 1952, he married Dolores Niese of 61 years, who survives in New Cleveland.
Ron is also survived by four children, Denny (Deb) Lammers of Glandorf, Diane (Tim) Gable of Leipsic, Brenda (Michael) Tolles of Defiance, and Ronda Lammers of Elida; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Eugene (Margaret) Lammers of Leipsic, Norman (Jane) Lammers of Leipsic, and Dolores (Gerry) Wenzinger of New Bavaria.
Ron was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland. He retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, was an insurance manager for Putnam County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company, a security guard for Scot Lad Foods in Lima, milk handler in Defiance and co-owner of the former Beer Barrel in Ottawa. He was a member of the Ottawa Eagles Aerie 2234, Ottawa Knights of Columbus, and attended the Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity and a lieutenant ROTC. Ron was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, gardening and canning, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland, with Very Reverend George Wenzinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where a K of C rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m.
