OAKWOOD -- Melvin J. Myers, 72, of Oakwood, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at his residence.
He was born on March 6, 1942, to Ancel and Mildred (Coil) Myers in Paulding, Ohio. On June 27, 1998, he married Judith Warnke. Melvin worked for Johns Manville and also farmed. He loved farming, fishing and attending auctions.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Judith; mother, Mildred; children, Craig (Judy) Myers of Russellville, Ark., Theresa (Tom) Allsup of Jacksonville, Fla., Michelle Myers of Oakwood, Anita Ijere of Jackson, Mich., June (Jeff) Richard of Jewell and Tamera (Jeff) Hagerman of New Bavaria; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Madaline (Paul) Rosebrock of North Carolina, Martin (Penny) Myers of Arizona, Marion Myers of Napoleon, Rolland (Judy) Myers of Oakwood, Robert (Gloria) Myers of Cecil, Marsha (Eddie) Shrider of Michigan, Keith (Pam) Myers of Oakwood, Roger Myers of Defiance, Jan (Mark) Peck of New Riegel, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father; sister, Marilyn Wiseman; brother, Eddie Myers; son, Michael Myers; and a granddaughter, Katrina Perez.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. Larry Kennedy officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the funeral home.
