Phyllis Burke, 94, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at her residence.
She was born on October 22, 1919, to Arthur and D. Jane (Bickhard) Hoover in Antwerp, Ohio. On December 24, 1938, she married Robert S. Burke. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and a member of the church's Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Salmagundi Book Club and Van Wert Eastern Star.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Stephen (Christine) Burke of Defiance and Michael (Roberta) Burke of Naples, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Judith Burke of Defiance; grandchildren, Robert (Ilaria) Burke III, Jennifer (David) Rinkes, Mark (Julia) Burke, Timothy (Celeste) Burke, Philip Burke and Daniel Burke; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brother, Arthur E. Hoover Jr.; and a son, Robert Burke Jr.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, with services beginning at 1 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. Eric Peltz officiating. Entombment will follow in the Riverview Memory Gardens mausoleum.
