OTTAWA -- Monica Sue Torres, known to her loved ones as Sabrina, Mana, Sissy, or Mommy, 27, of Ottawa, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at her residence with her family at her side. Monica fought a courageous battle against brain cancer for the past five years, and is now at peace with the Lord.
Monica was born on June 28, 1986, to Saul and Yolanda (Ramirez) Maldonado in Dallas, Texas. On July 18, 2011, she married Mike Torres. Monica and Mike lived in Ottawa, with their two beloved children, Christian Anthony Maldonado, and Lyric Josiah Mark Torres.
Monica is survived by her loving husband, Mike Torres; her father, Saul (Roslava) Maldonado of Boulder, Colo.; mother, Yolanda (Ruben Ybarra) Maldonado of Defiance, Ohio; sons, Christian and Lyric; siblings, Saul Maldonado Jr. and Ruben Ybarra Jr., both of Defiance, Fabian, Falcundo and Alandra Maldonado, all of Boulder, Colo.; brother-in-law, Robert (Alexandra) Torres Jr. and sister-in-law, Yvonne (Austin Robey) Torres, both of Ottawa; brother-in-law, Johnny (Nicole) Torres, of Findlay; mother-in-law, Irene (Mark) Factor of Kalida; father-in-law, Robert Torres of Leipsic; grandma, Virginia (Eduardo) Garcia of Archbold; great-great-grandma, Dolores Reyes of Archbold; great-great grandma, Maria Ramirez of Defiance; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. today, May 9, 2014, at Temple of Praise Church, 505 Elbert Street, Defiance. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Ruben Laguna officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
