Herbert 'Herb' Fuhrhop

HAMLER -- Herbert "Herb" William Fuhrhop, 81, of Hamler, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at VanCrest Nursing Home, Holgate.

Herb was born in Marion Township, Ohio, on April 22, 1933, the son of William and Sophia (Gobrogge) Fuhrhop. He attended Hamler High School. On September 7, 1958, he married Ruth Behrman, who survives.

Herb was employed by North American Phillips for 44 years, and also 10 plus years as a certified weights & measures person for the Henry County auditor's office. He also worked at Crop Production, Hamler. He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler, where he held numerous offices and positions. He was also a 60-year member of Warren L. McIntire American Legion Post 262 in Hamler. He held various offices in the First District, county and post. Herb proudly served in the United States Army in Korea from 1953-55. Herb was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and loved to hunt mushrooms.

Herb is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughters, Brenda (David) Garbers of Wauseon, Ohio, and Beth Ann Fuhrhop of Philadelphia, Pa.; sons, Greg Fuhrhop of Lima, Ohio, and Jeff (Tara) Fuhrhop of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Benjamin Rodriguez, Kimberly Maddox, Kylie Fuhrhop, Ashlee Fuhrhop, Graham Fuhrhop and Lelia Fuhrhop; great-grandchildren, Hannah Zagarra, Kendall Maddox and Benjamin I. Rodriguez; brother, Elmer Fuhrhop, Whitehouse, Ohio; sisters, Loretta (John) Cramer, Holgate, Ohio, and Arlene Garbers, Fort Pierce, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Fuhrhop; sister, Marvel Guelde; and brother-in-law, Jack Guelde.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler, with Rev. James Budke officiating. Graveside services with military honors accorded by Warren L. McIntire Post 262 will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
