ARCHBOLD -- Gene F. Detterer, 75, of Archbold, Ohio, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo, Ohio.

Gene was born on January 30, 1939, in Ridgeville Township to the late Edward and Edna (Helberg) Detterer. On February 14, 1960, he married Nancy Ellis at St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker.

He was a 1957 graduate of Ridgeville High School. After graduating from high school, he served four years in the Army National Guard. Prior to his retirement, he was a farmer and a heavy equipment operator for Vern Nagel of Napoleon. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker, where he served as a deacon and trustee.

He is survived by Nancy, his loving wife of 54 years; children, Sherry (Les) Wyse, Archbold, and Rob (Jen) Detterer, Ridgeville; grandchildren, Rochelle (David) Borcherdt, Shannon (Brannon) Wurster, Allison Wyse, and Zac Detterer; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Borcherdt and baby Wurster on the way; brother, Don (Carolyn) Detterer; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, at St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker, with Pastor Jeff Corder officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker, and Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
