HICKSVILLE -- Frank R. Szabo, 69, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on June 13, 1944, in Soligen, Germany, the son of the late Miklos and Lieselotte (Eickenberg) Szabo.
Frank was a 1963 graduate of Defiance High School.
On September 17, 1988, he was united in marriage to Laurie Cleland and she survives.
Frank worked as an environmental engineer at GM Powertrain for 40 years until his retirement in 2004. He was also a former Defiance County Special Deputy and current Hicksville Police Department Auxiliary Police Officer.
Frank was a member of the NRA and the Fish & Game Club in Defiance, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife Laurie; children, Steve (Shelly) Szabo of Holgate, Ohio, Dani (Rob) Miller of Sherwood, Ohio, and Jeremy (Kelly) Van Horn of Hicksville; grandchildren, Devyn and Dylan Szabo, Logan and Storm Miller, Vincent and Vaida Van Horn; brothers and sisters, Ilonka (Jerry) Riggenbach, Tim (Rhonda) Szabo, all of Bryan, Ohio; Caroline (Rick) Wagner, Mike (Jody) Szabo, all of Defiance, Ohio; Klaus (Susan) Szabo of Brownwood, Texas; and Diane (Snodgrass) Osipowich of Lagrange, Indiana.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Don Snodgrass.
Funeral services for Frank will be Wednesday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 29, from 2- 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
